Excerpt:
It was more than a fog. It was a paralyzing fear. It had changed everything around her into something dangerous and unknown. When it cleared, and things were normal, she felt like a dumb child and scolded herself as such.
Even the voice was familiar now. When she actually saw the creature that produced it, she laughed out loud. A parrot? Really, she feared for her life, over the voice of a parrot?
She followed it inside. The fog filled the living room. She walked into it with confidence. Fearless because it was just a bird. She was wrong!

Fogoyle: A Short Story by Christy Mann
Interview with Alana Haase about Fogoyle
CMR: First reactions
Alana: I was completely creeped out! ( and amazed at how frighteningly the “fog” was described. I could almost FEEL it. Creepy!
CMR: Then she did her job
Alana: Yes!
CMR: What did you think about the characters?
Alana: I really liked her, she seemed like a neighbor to me.
CMR: Was it written in first, second, or third person?
Alana: First, and believable! I LOVED it when she screamed and cursed when she saw the bird the first time.
CMR: Did it have an overall effect on the story line?
Alana: Hmmm… I guess it did, I had not thought of that. I was disappointed the story ended so abruptly but —- spoiler alert!—-
When the narrator is “disposed of” the tale is over!
CMR: All good things must end, right? It sucks when that happens.
Alana: It does! I wanted it to be longer I was so enjoying being scared!
CMR: If it was written any other way, how would the outcome be?
Alana: Hmmm… not to step on anyone’s story but perhaps if it had not been in first person we could have gotten a metamorphosis scene with the bird and found out what it was and where it came from? I LOVED it, just wanted it to continue!
CMR: Would you read a sequel or any other book that Christy put forth?
Alana: What’s better than a good scary story? Why HECK YEAH!
Oh my god you guys are amazing!!! Thank you CMR for this and Alana for your kind words! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This really made my day!
