Valentine’s Day Promotions. Interview and review of Kitten Brasher’s new book My Mate: Seedling

I loved the back story of how the Oxley family and how or why Bennett created or assisted in creating each member of the family. This is the story of Bennett Oxley who wakes up alone in the 1800’s and discovers that he is a vampire. He spends many years alone until he meets an injured boy by the name of Nathan and offers Nathan the chance at immortality which Nathan takes.

Slowly over the Centuries the family expands to Bennett finding his mate, Nathan feeling the need to turn Lillyanne (who later changes her name to Rebecca) who has lost everything and later during world war 1 finding her mate Jaxon, Ricky’s life being saved and him turning along with his mate Cassie. Everyone has a mate but Nathan.

Nathan lives a lonely existence without his mate and he refuses to even entertain the thought of being with any other woman that is not his mate until one day he finds in the mall a little lost girl by the name of Jacinda who is scared and can’t find her mother and she runs into Nathan. Nathan recognises right away that Jacinda is his mate but must wait till she grows old enough for him to claim her.

One day all the vampire siblings start school for the first time in a long time and Rebecca has a vision of Nathan meeting his mate at the mall. The next day he does and right away stakes his claim on her by having sex with her then telling her she is his and he will see her again. Their romance is whirlwind but rocky, they must face the changes of the family excepting Jacy, the pressures of school and Nathan’s need to claim Jacy at any time of the day including during class time.

It is discovered that Jacy has a talent of being able to put vampires to sleep to allow them to have visions and say goodbye to loved ones that have passed. Nathan has one such vision, he has 3 visions and this sets the couple on a quest to achieve those visions.

At the end Jacy returned home to her family to retrieve something she left behind and is kidnapped by her parents who sold her off years prior. Ending with a cliff-hanger will Nathan and the Oxley family save her.

Many that read Twilight fanfiction will recognises this story, But what I loved about this version was the back story of how all the characters came to be part of the family. How they stayed as a family traveling the world and as much as it is about Nathan and his search for his mate Jacy. The other characters had their roles to play and you could see the journey they all were on throughout histories main events until Nathan could meet his mate.

The story does give the reader the chance to see vampires in a different light and how it might be possible for a human and vampire to have children that is probably more believable than some of the versions that are out there.

The love between Nathan and Jacy is clear that they are soul’s mates and though Nathan has the clear characteristics of a vampire and the desire to possess Jacy she does not take his crap and will not tolerant him embarrassing her in front of others. But she is also possessive as Nathan it, is so funny when she calls a girl at school tries to come between Jacy and Nathan she calls her “skanka” and then processed to tell “skanka” what Nathan does to her and what she does to Nathan in a very graphic way that is just hot.

It is clear from the way the author has left the book with a cliff hanger that there will at least be a sequel if its not going to be a series. I can’t wait to see what Jacy is like as a vampire personally. I hope she is a strong independent woman that is not afraid to put Nathan in his place when he becomes to possessive and controlling. I would also like to see if Rebecca’s vision of Jacy on a throne is to come to pass and what Nathan will do to Jacy’s parents when he finds out she has been sold. I would not like to be on the receiving end of his wrath.

All in all it was a good book to read, I enjoyed many parts of it especially the backstory into how each member of the family came to be part of the family. I look forward to the next book to see what happens.
